The Office of Human Rights Education focuses on issues of human rights and reflects Newton North’s commitment to issues of diversity. It serves as a resource for issues regarding gender, race, Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender (GLBT) identity. It works with the On Campus office to present assemblies related to human rights and diversity to the school. Additionally, it works with the school’s Human Rights Board, a group consisting of students, teachers, and parents from different cultural backgrounds and life experiences. The office serves as a resource to the school’s faculty, students and cultural clubs (e.g. Black Leadership Advisory Council, Asian Culture Club, Gay Straight Alliance, International Club, Mentors in Violence Prevention , to name a few.) It also works with the Leadership in a Diverse Society class to bring our school’s commitment to respect for human differences to life.
