Newton North Athletics Sportsmanship Statement
At Newton North Athletics, sportsmanship is at the heart of everything we do. Guided by our three core pillars—Competitive, Respect, and Inclusion—we are committed to creating a positive and meaningful experience for all student-athletes.
We strive to compete at the highest level, always with integrity and a relentless pursuit of excellence. We show respect for our teammates, opponents, coaches, officials, and fans, understanding that how we play the game matters just as much as the final score. And we proudly uphold a standard of inclusion, ensuring that every student feels welcomed, valued, seen, and heard within our athletic community.
These values are not just words—they reflect who we are. Through them, we aim to build not only strong teams but strong character, and a culture where all participants grow, thrive, and support one another both on and off the field.

Unified Sports is a division of the Special Olympics.
It is an inclusive program which combines individuals with intellectual disabilities (athletes) and individuals without intellectual disabilities (partners) on sports teams for training and competition. Athletes and partners compete alongside one another, each in a meaningful and integral role on the team.
The purpose of the Unified Sports program is to create unique bonds among teammates through sports experiences just like any other sports team. Participation leads to new friendships, improved self‑esteem and positive changes in attitude, behavior and performance for all students involved. These experiences create a culture of inclusion and foster understanding in schools and communities.
To effectively accomplish this goal, it is recommended that each team have a 1:1 ratio for Athletes to Partners. To keep the ratio on our team closer to the recommendation, we are accepting a maximum of 40 partners this season.
In order to be accepted as a Partner this season, you must meet the following criteria:
- You must be able to attend ALL team practices and games. Our practice schedule will be Monday, Wednesdays and Thursdays this season.
- Strong desire to form meaningful relationships with others, especially peers with intellectual disabilities.
- Full Engagement at practices/games. Partners should proactively engage with their teammates.
- Wear athletic clothing to practice (i.e. sneakers, sweatpants, shorts, etc…). This allows you to participate actively and also sets an example for your teammates.
